Following the outcome of the Enugu Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Thursday, 21st September, kinsmen of Mr. Chijioke Edeoga from Mgbuji community in Isi Uzo Local Government Area have urged him to accept the verdict in good faith and congratulate the state governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, whose election was validated by the tribunal, adding that the judgment was perfectly rendered.

This was even as stakeholders from Eha-Amufu Development Area and Mgbuji community, Mr. Edeoga’s hometown, congratulated the governor on his well-deserved victory, pledging to support his administration to build a new Enugu State of their dreams.

In a statement issued on Friday by Hon Eugene Ugwuede, a lawyer and an elder statesman, on behalf of the Mgbuji Development Association (MDA), Edeoga was enjoined to accept the tribunal verdict as further step of appealing the judgment could tantamount to waste of time, energy and resources.

“We have had ample opportunity to evaluate the decision of the governorship election tribunal affirming the validity of Governor Peter Mbah’s victory. Even though we had wished well for our brother and son, Chief Chijioke Edoega, at the court, the judgment, to us, is faultless and well dissected.

“While we are in solidarity with our son in this moment of depression, we want to appeal to him to sheathe his sword, accept the decision in good faith and congratulate the governor.

“Since the governor has extended a hand of fellowship to those that lost at the tribunal, we consider this an apt opportunity for us here at Mgbuji to unite and support this government for the progress of the state.

“Our team of lawyers had applied and obtained the certified true copies of the judgment immediately after the delivery of judgment yesterday, and we kept sleepless night analysing the issues one after the other. We find the verdict fair and satisfactory, and we hope that it is time to work together for the future of our children.

“It is needless appealing the judgment since the goal of all the candidates was to serve the people and the state. Our son should embrace the olive branch the governor has waved and see how to be accommodated,” part of the statement added.

Meanwhile, the people Eha-Amufu and Mgbuji communities had been thrown into jubilation after the decision of the court, stressing that the country’s democracy was being consolidated.

While hailing the tribunal for dispensing judgment as impartial arbiter and last hope of the masses, they added that they would be working closely with the Mbah administration to achieve its vision and mission for the state.
